If you think that engineering schools are full of geeks and only for men, you’ve got the kind of prejudices that Marie-Sophie Pawlak wants to get rid of.
Marie-Sophie is an engineer by training and is the source of an initiative aimed at attracting young women to careers that they often know very little about – engineering and tech.
It’s not that these sectors reject women, it’s more that female high school students often don’t even consider them. And this is where the President of the French association, Elles Bougent (Girls on the Move), wants to make a difference.
Thanks to the association’s network of women engineer and tech mentors, female high school students can have direct contact with women working in these fields and therefore break the stereotypes.
Bringing gender diversity to these sectors is essential and first-hand accounts are one of the most effective tools that the defenders of this movement have.
Going forward, engineering and tech will form a large part of the job market and these sectors can’t afford to miss out on the multitude of talents that women have to offer!
