Job Description

Assystem’s Nuclear Division has recently been awarded several design contracts, and as a result are expanding their team in Bristol. As such, we now have an opening for an Instrumentation and Control (I&C) Engineer to work with us on the HPC project, Bristol based.

As an Instrumentation and Control Engineer you will be responsible for performing the necessary specification and analysis to produce the Instrumentation and Control design for a number of systems within the HVAC and Distribution Systems Group for the HPC project.

The Role:

  • Responsible for updating the I&C data package and associated documentation for HVAC and distribution systems on HPC
  • Applying Nuclear engineering rules applicable for I&C design e.g. for platform allocation
  • Defining the I&C functional requirements cascading the requirements from key safety inputs to ensure the safety case is respected
  • Using the DFD tool to define the I&C logic
  • Writing the test procedure and testing the control logic using the valid DFD tool
  • Using the Conduite tool to define the HMI in the Control Room
  • Producing technical peer reviews of I&C documents produced by other engineers in the team
  • Mentoring and support less experienced engineers throughout the I&C sequence to update their system documentation


Essential Experience / Qualifications:

  • HND / HNC or equivalent (preferably I&C, Mechanical, Chemical or Electrical Eng)
  • Background in Instrumentation and Control Design
  • Understanding of Safety Case Construction and Nuclear Safety requirements placed on systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC or distribution systems and system design


  • Knowledge of UK licensing requirements and its applications within the HPC project
  • Familiarity with Human Factors requirements
  • Experience of working on an operating plant or an industrial site

Software / Tools:

  • DFD and Conduite (EDF specific)
